Event will focus on depression in the young

BARNSTABLE The state Department of Mental Health, along with the Department of Public Health, will sponsor "Depression: True Stories A Town Meeting on Cape Cod" on Sept. 17 at the Tilden Arts Center at Cape Cod Community College in West Barnstable. The event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, will include the screening of a 25-minute film, Depressions: True Stories, followed by a panel discussion about young people and depression.

The event is free, but reservations are requested by contacting Jane Evans at 508-564-9624 or jane.evans@dmh.state.ma.us.

The first 300 people or organizations to RSVP will receive a complimentary package at the event which includes a DVD of the film and the book, Words Can Work: When Talking About Depression and Other Mental Health Disorders. The book is created by Blake Works, Inc., an organization that creates educational materials that address some of the challenges facing young people. The organization's founder, Jeanne Blake, will moderate the Sept. 17 event.
